I've been listening to many different stuff of 2012 in the past weeks, I like these albums the most: - Gojira - L'Enfant Sauvage - Sylosis - Monolith - Wintersun - Time I - Converge - All We Love We Leave Behind - Deftones - Koi No Yokan - Pig Destroyer - Book Burner - Periphery - Periphery II - Pallbearer - Sorrow and Extintion - The Faceless - Autotheism - Devin Townsend Project - Epicloud. So in the months of March and April we got Cannibal Corpses "Torture", Municipal Waste's "The Fatal Feast", Aborted's "Global Flatline", Meshuggah's "Koloss", a new record from Aaron Turner (ex-Isis, head of hydra head records) in "Split Cranium". We still have High on Fire's "De Vermis Mysteriis", Torche's "Harmonicraft" and 3 Inches of Blood's "Long Live Heavy Metal". These are some good times my fellow headbangers. One that comes to mind for me is Carmageddon 2 and Meshuggah's "Koloss" something about the heaviness of that album goes perfectly with running people over and blowing up the other cars hahaha Edit: Grammar mistake, meant "go" not "goes" in title. I'm not racist, but I'm going to say this now, brazilian and russian metalheads annoy the fuck out of me. for example, if i order a cd off of amazon, sometimes I get a brazil bootleg. Also, if I like a bands' page, all you see is a guy named (for example) Marco thrashking, saying "come to chile!". It's annoying. Now, here's a twist to the story; I'm Russian-American, and i speak perfect english. I'm gonna put this out there, the russian metal scene SUCKS. Their vocals are boring and disgusting. For me? 1. Dying Fetus- Reign Supreme 2. Meshuggah- Koloss 3. Cannibal Corpse- Torture 4. Gorod- A perfect Absolution 5. Lamb of God- Resolution 6. Gojira- L'Enfant Sauvage 7. Goatwhore- Blood for the master 8. Dreaming Dead- Midnightmares 9. Psycroptic- The Inherited Repression 10. Shadows Fall- Fire From the Sky The #1 and #2 spots are almost a tie. Both albums are cornerstones for both bands, in my opinion. Instant classics. It was hard to not giving the #1 to Meshuggah considering Thought i'd share this list here to create some discussion. It captured that deep, ancient, cosmic, unconscious glimmer power. 2. Nothing. 3. Koloss. What are some "must listen" songs and/or albums. Personally I would rank mine as: 1. "The struggle to free myself of restraints, becomes my very shackles". Kinda procrastinating and remembered that this band existed. I only heard rationale gaze. Should I go chronological order or in a specific order. For me it's Elastic, The Hurt That Finds You First and Violent Sleep of Reason. The high notes in the openings of those songs annoyed me for some reason and I usually skipped them. But they grew on me a whole after giving them a few listens. It's hard to tell Meshuggah songs apart because they're all so monotonous and similar. I have loads of respect for what they do but I don't particularly enjoy the few songs I've heard because it seems there's such a focus on creating interesting rhythms and next to no focus on actually creating a memorable melody. Can someone explain this to me, or maybe link me to a song that will change What's your thoughts on Meshuggah? And what is their best album in your opinion?
